American Goulash (American Chop Suey)
Casserole-style tomato, hamburger, and macaroni pasta dish.
- Macaroni or similar pasta, parboiled or soaked
- Onion; green bell pepper. Diced.
- Minced garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, etc.
- Ground beef
- Puréed canned tomato, tomato sauce, and/or diced tomato; beef/chicken stock (if necessary)
- Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper
- Optional: Cheddar or mozzarella; parmesan
- Chopped parsley
Sweat onions and bell pepper in olive oil. Cook aromatics until fragrant. Add ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until no longer pink. Add tomato (and chicken stock if additional liquid is needed). Bring to a simmer, season, add parboiled pasta, and continue to simmer until just about done. Season. Add cheese if using and melt covered on gentle heat or in the oven. Garnish and serve.
